GILMERTON HOUSE KITCHEN GARDEN

Apple blossom in the air Wonderful to see our new apple trees flowering their socks off despite this last fiercely cold week with winds that made us all think it was January rather than the start of spring. Our volunteers have made an excellent job of planting all our new trees completing half of our new orchard – all beautifully set out and looking very neat and tidy – we will be labelling up individual trees with your names on them and tree friends are very welcome to come and visit the garden to see their trees in place.       To continue the planting of our orchard and… Read more »

Gilmerton Kitchen Garden Video

June Tanish writes. . . At the beginning of the month I was asked along to give a workshop at this year’s Trellis conference. These annual conferences are always excellent for ideas, inspiration and networking and well worth attending. I thought I would talk a bit about volunteering and offer some of my own experience in recruiting and motivating volunteers.   One of the things that I thought would be interesting to show folk would be what some or our own volunteers thought, why they became involved and what they want out of their own involvement. Initially planning a short video clip on my phone (!) things spiraled into something quite… Read more »

Gilmerton Kitchen Garden March Newsletter

Orchard beginnings… Its wonderful to see the start of our tree planting in the garden – we are setting out and planting our new orchard, some of the trees already purchased by our new members last December. If you haven’t yet been sent your certificate these will be coming out by the end of the month. JAN/FEB 2017 MUSINGS

JAN/FEB 2017 MUSINGS by Maz Gardening Volunteer at Tatton Park Walled Kitchen Garden, Knutsford, Cheshire I start my blog with good wishes to all WKGN members for a splendid gardening year. My thanks to the lovely Elizabeth for her words of encouragement. A grey day didn’t dampen the spirits of 15 of the Tuesday Team as they started their garden volunteering year with a walk through the Parkland, passing the two herds of Red and Fallow Deer, and the Millennium Wood, to Knutsford for coffee at a Turkish Café, then back to Tatton for lunch in the Stables Restaurant. This now traditional walk gears us up to start back to work… Read more »
