The walled garden is 9 acres in total with the 4 acre kitchen garden used historically to grow fruit and vegetables and cut flowers for the Castle. Today this tradition continues and we produce seasonal produce for the public, cafes and estate. The rest of the walled garden comprises formal herbaceous borders, the Tapestry Garden – a more informal garden designed by Angel Collins in 2016 – a new cutting garden and glasshouses including an original 1857 vinery. In 2023 a neglected shady area of the walled garden was developed as a Fernery/Stumpery to reflect the Victorians passion for these plants.
