The gardens at Fulham Palace are of historical significance, since in the 17th century Bishop Compton was among the first to import rare species from Virginia. The walled garden dates from the 18th century, but has a Tudor ornamental doorway facing the house. It is currently being restored, planting has begun and an aluminium glasshouse has replaced the derelict vinery.
