Holkham Hall, Norfolk – 9th & 10th October

Dear friends, we are looking forwards enormously to welcoming you to the 25th Anniversary of the Walled Kitchen Gardens Network, with thanks to the Coke family and Lord Leicester, and head gardener Mark Morrell for inviting us to hold this year’s event at Holkham Hall.
The event takes place on Friday 9th October at Holkham, with visits to other walled gardens in north Norfolk on Saturday 10th October 2026.
Booking is now open, please register using the booking form below. Speakers and further details for the event will be confirmed in the next few months.
In 2026 we need no excuse to celebrate the remarkable work and recognition of walled gardens across Britain and Ireland brought back to life by dedicated owners and gardeners, including significant and historic places like Holkham Hall’s walled gardens. We are now looking ahead, to discuss how these gardens will need to managed for the next 25 years and beyond; looking at climate change, understanding how to maintain structures and glasshouses, the importance of soils and nature, and the horticultural skills required to keep gardening and managing these places.
One of the ‘Treasure Houses of Britain’ Holkham Hall has a beautiful example of an historic walled kitchen garden, originally laid out by Samuel Wyatt during the late 1700s. The garden is divided into ‘squares’ and ‘slips’, each with their own theme and associated planting. Within the walls of the six-acre Walled Garden, are a spectacular stand of Georgian and Victorian greenhouses and vineries, a formal ornamental garden, an established vineyard, and productive gardens. you can find more information in Events and Training
The Walled Kitchen Gardens Network was started in 2001 after the first Forum was held at Hellens in Herefordshire. Susan Campbell and Fiona Grant decided to set up an online ‘Grapevine’ accessible to anyone with an interest in walled kitchen gardens. since then, the Network has become an important part of the conservation, recognition and future of these gardens, with the annual Forum demonstrating so well the importance of contact and communication between people and gardens.
We look forwards to seeing you for the 25th Anniversary, at Holkham Hall in October, learn more about Holkham Hall and the wider work of the Estate here
